In 2006, Typhoon Xangsane (meaning elephant in Lao) swept across the Pacific and the South China Sea, hammering Vietnam’s central coast. The storm and ensuing flooding and landslides killed 59 people in Vietnam; 200,000 Vietnamese were evacuated from their homes.

VRE aided people on the outskirts on the devastation – those who were overlooked by other relief organizations. We helped these 1,140 families by giving them rice, blankets, mosquito nets and instant noodles.
