VRE was founded in 1999, after a crippling flood surged through central Vietnam, killing 736 people, displacing more than 1,600,000 others, and causing an estimated $300 million in damages.

A group of Vietnamese-Americans raised enough money to go back to Vietnam to buy rice, blankets and other supplies, and personally distribute it to the villagers.

We arrived in Hue, central Vietnam, and spent 5 days traveling through different rural villages, talking to the people and helping where we could.
